What is Muhammad University of Islam?

Muhammad University of Islam is a private religious, educational institution established in the early 1930s by Master Fard Muhammad and the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad in Detroit, Michigan. It was later re-established by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1989. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad desired that black children be properly educated by their own teachers and taught a special knowledge (knowledge of self and God) that will grow the student into a reflection of God and empower them to take their proper position as future rulers and leaders of a whole new world of peace (Kingdom of Allah (God)). Our aim is to produce students who not only possess the mind of rulership (leadership), but also one of high intellect, high moral conduct and character with the mind to do something for themselves, their families, community, and nation. There are currently 12 Muhammad Universities across the country.

The Muhammad University of Islam in Houston was established in 1998.

The Muhammad Universities of Islam were born from the need to revive, reform, and redeem those who had suffered from the mis-education of and hostility towards blacks in the public school system. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad founded the University of Islam because he knew that only a universal education rooted in freedom, justice, and equality could reverse the problems and challenges in the American educational system

Mr. Muhammad established a vehicle that has enabled us to control the education of our children, and consequently the direction of our future. Muhammad University of Islam (MUI) is a private institution of learning servicing early childhood, 3 years old thru 5th grade—adding a grade level every year. Muhammad University receives no government funding and maintains its operations through tuition, donations, and fundraising efforts by parents and patrons of the school.
