Pre-K-logoMath: Identifying shapes, counting, measuring, comparing and describing sizes, putting things in order, creating patterns, classifying, sorting, matching, thinking and problem solving.

Reading: Recognizing letters and sounds, numbers, verbalizing thoughts, and telling or dictating own stories.

Writing: Hand-eye coordination, beading, cutting. Strengthening muscles in hands with activities such as play-dough and legos.

Science: Learning about our environment, our nature, plants, animals, five senses, and doing different science experiments.

Art: Learning to express themselves with art; learning to use pencils, markers, glue, and scissors.

Computers: Learning to use the mouse, looking up words, playing recognition games.

Health & Safety: Encouraging good health, nutrition and eating habits; practicing fire drills.


Elementary (1st – 5th)

First_grade_graphicMath: Students will apply mathematics to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace. Students will use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, evaluating the problem-solving process, and the reasonableness of the solution. Students will select appropriate tools, such as real objects to solve problems.

Reading: This course offers the students reading instruction to successfully navigate academic demands as well as attain life-long literacy skills. Specific instruction in word recognition, vocabulary, comprehension strategies, and fluency provides students opportunity to read with competence, confidence, and understanding. All of these strategies are applied in instructional-level and independent-level texts that cross the content areas.

Writing: This course emphasizes skill in the use of conventions and mechanics of written English, the appropriate and effective application of English grammar, the reading comprehension of informational text, and the effective use of vocabulary. Students are expected to understand the recursive nature of the reading and writing process.

Last-Day-of-Fifth-Grade-BWScience: The study of science includes planning and safely implementing classroom and outdoor investigations using scientific processes, including inquiry methods, analyzing information, making informed decisions, and using tools to collect and record information, while addressing the major concepts and vocabulary, in the context of physical, earth, and life sciences.

Study Skills: This course is to aid students in recognizing the barriers that are encountered in studying; helping the students to become better at handling those barriers on their own. Utilizing the dictionary as a study tool is mastered at this level. Students begin to work more independently while still being closely supervised.

Foreign Language: The students’ grasp of a foreign language (generally Spanish) is geared toward full language fluency. Emphasis is on speaking conversationally in various real-life situations.

Health & Safety: In health education, students acquire the health information and skills necessary to become healthy adults, and learn about behaviors in which they should and should not participate. To achieve that goal, students will understand the following: (1) personal behaviors can increase or reduce health risks throughout the lifespan; (2) health is influenced by a variety of factors; and (3) students can recognize and utilize health information and products.

Technology Application: Through the study of technology operations and concepts, students learn technology related terms, concepts and data input strategies. Students practice digital citizenship by behaving responsibly while using technology tools and resources. Students gain research and information fluency, which includes the acquisition and evaluation of digital content. Students collaborate and communicate to reinforce and promote learning. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills are developed through collecting, analyzing, and reporting digital information.

Islamic Studies/History/Geography: Focus is on orienting students to their physical surroundings and cultural environment. Also, the students study maps, so that they become familiar with the continents and their major physical features. In addition to our reading program’s emphasis on historical figures and events, students will research and write reports on several famous figures throughout history.
